TLAW Quid: “I want to say sorry, [because] I was a bit too nervous or too scared to make plays in the game.”

"I'll go back, watch our games back so I can play better in the next series — and I'm pretty confident that we're going to have another match against T1 at the end of Play-Ins."

Q: Did it feel like Game 2, after being so close, was tilting for the team? Is that what made Game 3 look so brutal?

Quid: I don’t think we were tilted or something, but I’m not sure what my other teammates were after Game 2. But I was just really disappointed in myself — even though I was so fed, I didn’t really push forward to keep snowballing the game, and [then I] got caught in the side lane, or something like that.

I think in general, I gave a lot of time to them for scaling in the side lane. I could keep pushing forward, keep looking for aggressive angles when the enemy carry didn’t have Flash, but I didn’t.

After that game, I was really disappointed in myself — that I didn’t even contest side waves. I just kept giving priority to them, and I didn’t even look for mid angles to punish the enemy.

Q: Do you think that’s because it’s T1? Would you have been able to execute that correctly in LCS, without the pressure?

Quid: I think it’s just part of my own weakness as a player. Even though we’re winning so hard, after we won a couple of sequences that got us really ahead in the game, I was thinking, “Now we don’t need to do too much to win the game. I can just chill until objectives come out,” — or something like that. That habit makes you stop playing the game.

I think I had that kind of mindset: “If we just make team fights around objective timers, we’re going to win the game.” But I think I could still pressure them [and] make some plays before the objective timer.

I don’t think I [made that mistake] because I was playing against T1. I think in general, I have the mindset that if we’re ahead, we don’t need to take big actions, even if it can be a good angle.

Q: You’ll likely face DCG next. Do you know anything about them?

Quid: To be honest, no.

Q: You’ll have to prep pretty fast.

Quid: Yeah, so I gotta watch today’s series.

Q: Looking back at today, you’ve now faced Faker several times. Does it feel different in-game? Sometimes it looks like T1 just can’t lose — no matter how far behind they are. Is that actually the case?

Quid: I feel like when I play against Faker, I just feel like I’m playing against a good mid laner that can affect the map pretty easily if you give priority to him.

And in general, I think against good teams, if you kind of stop playing the game — or just stop making plays — when you’re ahead, I think they’re going to keep looking for pick angles or try to find angles to get back into the game. Against good teams, you cannot stop playing the game.

You should just keep pushing forward, pushing the limit so the enemy can make mistakes [and] we can just keep making active plays around the map. I think that’s the main key to being a good team.

Q: Were there any specific moments today that stood out to you? Anything that you want to rant about a little bit?

Quid: I mean, I think Game 3’s level 1, I think Jose just miscalculated the angle — he thought he could win 2v2. I think he thought he could do that, so I don’t blame him because we just misexecuted the angle.

Mainly for me, it’s Game 2 when Kalista has no Flash. It’s around the 18 to 20 minute timer, I think. I just kept trying to farm in the side lane, even though I had Taliyah ult and all summs up. I could literally just ult on her head and kill her, get Baron, and easily win the game.

I think I should’ve done that, but I just kept staying in the side lane and got caught, gave a 1k bounty to Ryze. That sequence was so troll, in my opinion. I think I solo lost Game 2 by my … shit macro, I’d say.

Q: So if we’re talking about the way the world’s best teams clutch wins, does that mostly come down to better, more consistent macro?

Quid: As I said before, I think it’s like… In LCS, if you have a lead and just play a little bit safe, like playing for objectives, you don’t usually get punished that much if you play slower, even though you can push forward.

But I think against actually good teams, if we just give one moment or make a couple of silly mistakes, they’re just going to [win].

Yeah, I’ll say they have more clutch ability in-game than the LCS teams do. I don’t think we lost that game because it was T1 or just because they’re a good team. They’re good at clutching the moment and finding angles to get back into the game, but I think we lost because we stopped playing the game against a good team.

Q: Do you think LYON will struggle with the same thing? They’re famously slow, as a team.

Quid: Yeah, I’m guessing they can struggle like us too, but I think they’re way better at making games slower than us. Even in Game 2, we didn’t just try to make the game slower, we just tried to [only take actions] around the objective timer, if that makes sense.

I think it’s mainly on me. I could’ve called more aggressively that I could look for angles [and play towards] Baron because of Taliyah. I think I should be the one calling that aggressively. I guess it’s not a team thing. I think I should be more proactive in the mid game if we can get a huge lead with my play.

I just think I shouldn’t play that scared when we’re ahead. I think I was too scared to make plays because if I make mistakes, they’re going to come back into the game. But I think I should just keep pushing forward when I’m playing champions like Ryze or Taliyah.

Q: Do you have a final message for TL fans? Will you make it back to the rematch with T1?

Quid: First of all, I want to say sorry, [because] I was a bit too nervous or too scared to make plays in the game. But I don’t think we are that bad of a team if I know how to manage the mid game.

So I’ll go back, watch our games back so I can play better in the next series — and I’m pretty confident that we’re going to have another match against T1 at the end of Play-Ins.
