DIG Tomo: “Srtty won yesterday, so everyone’s doubling down on DIG hate. But it is what it is.”

Q: Did you feel like you defied expectations, even though you got 2-0’d?
Tomo: From my perspective, at least, the games definitely felt playable. I think we really fumbled got snowballed on in Game 1, and especially Game 2 we should have won. But I think I played really poorly individually. I know what the right thing to do in the game is, maybe I’m too greedy or something, but I just don’t do it. And I think that’s ultimately why we lost game two. That’s how I felt.
Q: In the moment, you know the right thing to do, or after?
Tomo: It was third dragon fight or something [and] I said I was gonna move first, but I didn’t move first. I think I got caught off guard a bit by their counterplay. Overall, today I just played individually really poorly as well. I wasn’t focused on what everyone can do in the game, so that’s why it was difficult to win even though the games were in winning positions at times.
Q: Do you think Yunara is actually strong enough to be meta, or just a new curveball?
Tomo: I think she’s definitely strong in spots where it makes sense. Maybe in this game it didn’t really make sense because I picked it 1-2 blind, but I think she’s a really insane hypercarry. She does a lot of damage if she can actually free hit in these fights. Their comp was designed to make a lot of space — they have a lot of AOE spells from Lucian ult, Skarner, Taliyah, Alistar, so it was kinda difficult for me to upkeep my DPS. […] If she can just front to back and hit the whole time, she does a lot of damage. They played really well around it, and I [also] performed really poorly on her, but I think she does have a place in the game right now.
Q: People consider FLY and C9 the top 2, but where would you put everyone else? It seems really competitive in the middle.
Tomo: I kind of agree with you with your statement that FLY is the clear best team right now. I think C9 is pretty close to FLY. They’re good in some aspects that FLY is worse in and vice versa, so I think they’re [at a] similar power level, but I think FLY is just playing better overall. Honestly, the rest of the league is kind of a toss-up and I do think that every team week-by-week is getting better.
Come playoffs, it’s just who shows up from the rest of the pack, because I do feel like every week the power level shifts. Maybe one week TL’s playing really well, and then obviously, they didn’t perform well this week. LYON powered up a bit and I think DSG has been playing pretty well, or they have more of an identity. It’s just hard to give a read on everyone’s individual or team power level.
Q: The ADC’s feel especially close, with a really strong pool overall, even on bottom teams. Do you agree?
Tomo: Yeah. I feel like you could mismatch ADCs onto other teams and they’ll probably play very similarly to how they’re playing right now, so it’s really hard to rate ADCs, especially since the meta right now is more so about swapping around and getting tempo for objectives and stuff like that, so it’s not really about the 2v2.
Although I do think that there’s some outliers; I think Yeon’s really good at 2v2.
Q: So let’s rate them by overall play.
Tomo: I don’t really scrim FLY much, so I’m not too sure how good Massu is — because I just haven’t played against him. But I guess just for a performance, S. I think Yeon’s also S here.
Maybe put Zven in A — [and] I think Rahel is actually really good. I’ll put Rahel in A as well.
[With Bvoy, Hena, and FBI], the three ahead of me are interchangeable.
Tomo: I do think my impression of Rahel is [quite high] — because I’ve been scrimmed DSG a fair bit, and I think [he], compared to other ADCs I’ve scrimmed against, has a lot of pressure in the games. It always feels like he has an impact, even though his team’s not the greatest. He always tries to be stable and have an effect in the game.
So I think he’s more [of] a traditional ADC. I think ADCs right now, they kinda move around — just play for objectives. This guy will play for 12 CS a minute and try to get items faster than you and just try to win like that.
Q: Right now, DSG is beating Shopify. Does that surprise you?
Tomo: Honestly, no. As I was saying earlier, DSG has actually improved a lot. At least that’s how I feel, scrimming against them. They have a really good structure — and I think Rahel’s really good. And honestly, DARKWINGS has been playing better than people expected him to.
Q: Any final message to the DIG fans — or haters? Do you think about the haters?
Tomo: Srtty won yesterday, so everyone’s doubling down on DIG hate. But it is what it is, you know? I think we’re just trying our best.
Photon definitely added a lot to our team. […] Because he’s Korean, I didn’t expect him to be as vocal as he is. He really wants to be a part of the team, it feels like he’s always talking to me about what I think about stuff, outside of just scrim time. He’s trying really hard to be involved with the team — Photon’s been a really good addition.
We’re slowly getting better. Obviously, we went 0-2 today against C9, but I think stage games really are a pretty good wake up call for us, or at least for me. I definitely need to focus more and just play better.
