AL Kael: “When I was little, when I would look at portraits of historical figures, they just seemed very intimidating — they just looked very scary.”

"It just gave me the feeling that they could be … like a reincarnation, and they almost looked alive. I think that’s where the fear came from."

Q: That was a long series. How is your energy?

Kael: I would say, in terms of my energy, I struggled mostly because it was a 5 game series. I wouldn’t say it was any jet lag issues or anything.

Q: Have you followed CFO or MKOI?

Kael: Yeah, I’ve been following pretty much all the teams that are in MSI, because we were actually watching every single match [together] as a team.

Q: Which team do you think will win, and why?

Kael: I believe that both teams are good, strong teams, so I can’t really predict who’s going to win at the moment.

Q: Do you agree with the Gumayusi + Doran statement that the “the gap” is closing?

Kael: Ever since last year — or it could’ve also started this year — but I feel that the overall level of gameplay has been going up in League of Legends in general, so I believe that’s why we’re seeing a lot of the teams do so much better. I think what I really need to watch out for is how different the teams are stylistically. That’s something I like to look out for.

Q: Did you do anything fun in Vancouver?

Kael: No activities — nothing special, really, but I did go out on walks in the morning, and that was really nice.

Q: Any players you want to meet or do a jersey swap with?

Kael: No one in particular

Q: Is there a team you find most threatening in the lower bracket?

Kael: Like I said earlier, all these teams at MSI are very different in terms of playstyle, and are also very strong. We just have to make sure we’re prepared and focused on what we have to do, and be ready to perform on stage and show up. Really focus on that, so nothing in particular in terms of your question.

Q: What did you think of Massu/Busio as a bot lane?

Kael: I think overall, I would say the bot lane had really good synergy, and they form a really good team bond with the rest of the team.

Q: Did you have any highlights with the team in Vancouver?

Kael: No special story, but we would go out with a couple of teammates on a walk, usually just around the hotel, but one time we went to the city and saw the ocean and stuff. That was very nice.

Q: Why are you afraid of portraits of historical figures?

Kael: When I was little, when I would look at portraits of historical figures, they just seemed very intimidating — they just looked very scary. It just gave me the feeling that they could be … like a reincarnation, and they almost looked alive. I think that’s where the fear came from.

Q: Do you miss the AL team dog, Bali?

Kael: I think it would’ve been really nice to have our team dog around, because she’s always around in Shanghai, and I feel like I always get amazing dog therapy when I have her with me. I do miss her.
