TL Yeon: “I’ve definitely been using more zoomer terms with Yuuji more than any of the [others]”
Q: That was a fucking speedrun – what was that?
Yeon: I think we had a pretty good early game start. Then it was just [in] our control for the majority of the game, except a couple slip-ups.
Q: I’m curious: have you been keeping up with LTA fantasy?
Yeon: Not really, I don’t even have my own team or account. Everybody else on my team just has one.
Q: I want to find out what everyone’s fantasy teams are. Game 1, you farmed me 50 points – or 50 Yeoints™, as I’d say.
Yeon: *Laughs* I see, I see. Did you pick Jhin for me, or…?
Q: No, that was with Lucian. Jhin would’ve been ~75 points. You just clip-farmed until the game ended.
Yeon: To be honest, I was very focused in [the] laning phase especially. I had a pretty good lead just from 1v1s in the matchup, and I think small leads turned into repeated big leads. And — this time around — we didn’t completely throw our lead. *coughs*
Q: Are you feeling alright?
Yeon: It’s alright, it’s just a cough. I’m not sick anymore. I definitely have a throat infection or something. I don’t know what it is.
Q: Does it bother you in game?
Yeon: It’s definitely a bit annoying. I don’t know what it is, but the adrenaline makes it so I don’t notice it that often until I have a really big cough. It’s not that bad, I’m good. I’m good now.
Q: Are you talking a lot on stage?
Yeon: Yeah, I’m talking a decent amount on stage. More than scrims, for sure. The reason I’m coughing more is because I’m talking more. I mean, it is what it is. I think I’m getting a lot better, though, these days. I’m not coughing as much as I used to.
Q: I know you’ve been under the weather for a bit, so I hope the throat feels better.
Yeon: Yeah, I mean, I feel a lot better. I’m like, “Why am I still coughing?” — it doesn’t make any sense, you know? It is what it is.
Q: What was it like playing with Yuuji today?
Yeon: He’s a very reserved and quiet dude, so our communication is very quiet. So I kinda spoke a lot more than I’m used to. He’s just a very chill dude.
It seemed like he was a little bit nervous [during] his first game. On his second game, he was completely the same. I even was like, “Yo, you nervous? After you killed the Herald and didn’t pick it up, and I just fucking yoinked it? That shit’s mine now.”
He killed the Herald and then he ran straight to his jungle camps. I was like, “Mmm, mine.”
Q: Did you tell him you picked it up?
Yeon: Yeah, I just said, “You nervous? You didn’t pick up the Herald.”
Q: Stage nerves are understandable. His first time playing in front of the whole crowd.
Yeon: Yeah, it was funny.
Q: Yuuji said you DM’d him a bunch of anime profile pictures. Is that true?
Yeon: Yeah, I forget which one it was, but I sent him two different ones. We were talking about Blue Lock, because he had a Blue Lock profile picture, I think. I was like, “Do you like this character?” And he said, “Yeah.”
I sent him a lot of profile pictures for it, because it looked like he liked it.
The second one was — do you know the smoking gif that I do? It’s just really funny, so I sent him all of mine, as well. I just found them on TikTok.
Q: All your Blue Lock and anime reaction images?
Yeon: Just the Nagi ones, ‘cuz he likes Nagi.
Q: Time for some general questions. Have you had In-N-Out recently?
Yeon: I think I had it a month ago?
Q: What’s your order at In-N-Out?
Yeon: Double cheeseburger, grilled onions, no tomato.
Q: Animal fries?
Yeon: Animal fries, for sure. Apparently, fries are not good [for you]. But if you just have two hamburgers, it’s very healthy. If you compare two hamburgers to, like, one burger plus fries and a drink, it’s [a] significant difference. Maybe I’ll change up my order to two hamburgers.
Q: But the fries are so much better.
Yeon: True, true. I don’t think I can back down from the fries. I’ll give up the drink.
Q: What do you think about Core’s bowl cut?
Yeon: Does he have a bowl cut? […]
I didn’t even realize he had a bowl cut. Maybe it’s just because of the headset? I don’t really have a bowl cut, but once I put everything together, it turns into a bowl cut, I think, because of the headset.
Q: Thoughts on the C9 matchup?
Yeon: To be honest, in the C9 series, I kinda played especially bad. I couldn’t really focus that well, and I was definitely not feeling that great. But I think this time around, I’m more excited to play against them. Especially because we lost to them, and it feels very bad to lose in general.
I think our [performance] level right now is fluctuating a decent amount, because our focus in scrims is extremely low. Our scrims are very chaotic and messy compared to stage, and it looks like we have a lot more self-control on stage. We just play cleaner. So it’s very hard to [gauge] our actual level right now.
Q: Interesting, I feel like I’ve heard previously that you guys were very disciplined in scrims.
Yeon: Nah, we’re very undisciplined in scrims. It makes scrimming a bit hard.
Q: Even last year?
Yeon: Even last year. Honestly, we were always a very undisciplined scrim team, in my opinion. But this time around, a little bit more, for sure.
Q: Do you think splitting scrims with different junglers is causing that?
Yeon: Nah, it’s not the junglers. It’s definitely us four, at some points. It could [partly] be the junglers, but our game flow is very off. Way different than stage, as well.
Q: Are they as bad as 100T? Are you guys just sprinting it every scrim?
Yeon: We definitely do more solo plays than team things, and we’re [typically] a very team-oriented team. We do more team-oriented actions and plans [on stage].
When we do solo things, it just falls apart, and we don’t know how to adapt well. We just need to have a little bit more self-control, in my opinion.
Q: What class would you play if you were in The King’s Avatar?
Yeon: Uh… it would definitely depend on what’s strong. I like playing strong things. If I do it now, maybe I’d choose a gunner class or something. But being a melee player sounds kinda fun, as well. Just duking it out.
Q: Is that a hint we’ll see something like Nilah or Mordekaiser ADC?
Yeon: Nah. I’m waiting for the League of Legends MMORPG to come out before I play melee [ADCs] like that. Unless there’s a good meta for it. I really like melee AD carries like Yasuo and Nilah, but I think their items suck right now, unfortunately.
Q: Thoughts on the Zven matchup?
Yeon: I think his weaknesses and strengths are pretty similar. I don’t think he tries to overdo it until it looks very good. He just lets it happen.
When you’re on a very good team — like TL, FLY, or C9 — you don’t feel the pressure to actively do your own thing. It’s very good for an AD carry player, but sometimes you won’t get the full potential of [your play].
His fundamentals are very sharp and his role-playing is very good. And when it comes to it, I think he plays well.
Q: So is there gonna be a handshake after you beat them? Or…
Yeon: Hopefully. I’m not the one who denied it last time, so, like…
Q: With Yuuji, you outnumber the boomers. Do you use zoomer words to confuse them?
Yeon: I’ve definitely been using more zoomer terms with Yuuji more than any of the [others].
Even when I show Core a TikTok, he just says, “I don’t get it.” It’s so plain and obvious to me. You know those TikToks where it’s like “Your friend when he, like, does something really stupid,” and it’s that cooking video, like barbecue, where it’s really… I don’t know how to explain it, fuck.
Q: I don’t use TikTok, so I probably wouldn’t know what you’re referring to.
Yeon: Really good food [means] “You’re cooking,” you know.
But Core’s like, “I don’t get it.” Even though it’s pretty straightforward.
Q: It’s spelled out, yeah.
Yeon: Too… too old.
Q: What are some examples of the zoomer lingo you use with Yuuji?
Yeon: I don’t really know, it just happens on the spot. These days, I’ve been using Google Translate, English to Mongolian, [and I] just type stuff.
He says, “What the fuck are you doing?”
Q: In League client or during scrims?
Yeon: In League client, in champ select. I just type random shit. One time I put, “My name is Brandon,” which is my assistant coach. I put [stuff like], “My name is [keyboard mash], I love playing [something].” And then I put it into Google Translate and I type it in. Slam it in there.
Q: Onstage, too?
Yeon: Scrims, scrims, scrims. I don’t think I’m allowed to open Google Translate or I’d do it, honestly.
Q: And I hope you get over your cough – get some cough drops, get some hot cocoa and rest your voice.
