LYON Berserker: “To be honest, I don’t think we can win against any LCK or LPL team at this point.”

Q: That didn’t even look close, by the end. Would you agree?
Berserker: I mean … for me, it wasn’t that clear. Especially Game 4, we were thinking differently from each other, I felt like. It’s just, like, even when we got Nashor after won the 5v5, we just didn’t get anything, I felt like.
So yeah, we should just keep working harder, I feel like. Of course, it’s good that we are champions, but I think we should play better. That’s how I feel.
Q: Was it stressful in Game 4? To be so close to winning?
Berserker: Not really. I can just feel that we have, like, different opinions from each other, so yeah. But we still won, so, I mean, it’s fine.
Q: Did you watch G2 earlier today against KC?
Berserker: Yeah, I watched it, but just like only one game. G2 won, right?
Q: Do you have a sense of how good they are ahead of First Stand?
Berserker: To be honest, I don’t really watch LEC. I watch LCK or LPL, but I don’t watch LEC.
Q: So then for LCK, because Gen.G and BFX are locked, what do you think of them?
Berserker: Well, I mean, even last year, BFX [were] really good. They just play really aggressive, five-man plays. [When] they just think together, the same thing together, I thought they might be the best aggressive team in the LCK. But they look really good when I watch the LCK [now].
Q: Is it reasonable to aim to beat an LCK team then, or are you looking at LEC and CBLOL?
Berserker: I mean, to be honest, I don’t think we can win against any LCK or LPL team at this point. Just for me, my goal for First Stand is more experience [for] our team play. You know what I mean?
We should keep getting better there, like, “What’s our job?” for each person.
Q: Was it satisfying to beat C9, your former team, today? Did it feel like revenge?
Berserker: I mean, I don’t think that it was, like, revenge. But it kind of felt like… I’m not sure what the feeling is, but I faced Thanatos, Blaber, Zven, and Vulcan, right? My ex-teammates. I just didn’t want to lose to them. That’s how I felt.
Q: What do you think is going wrong for them, since they keep missing internationals?
Berserker: Hmm, mean even like for my last year in C9, we didn’t make any international [tournaments].
I think when I watched C9 games, they’re good at team play, but I don’t think they are really good individually, especially in laning phase. Then sometimes, Blaber may go like — I mean, I don’t think it’s a mistake, maybe it’s a mistake — but sometimes he’s just, kind of, looking for a crazy angle to engage, or just playing for a burger-flip play, you know what I mean?
That’s why I think C9 didn’t make internationals, [from] when I watched the C9 games. That’s how I feel.
Q: Did that happen today too? Were they struggling in lane, or was Blaber flipping too much?
Berserker: I don’t think they’re, like, bad at laning phase, but they’re not hard winning when they need to, you know? Like, when [they] counter-picked Seraphine-Ashe, they picked Mel-Nami, right?
If they play the Mel champion into Ashe, I think they should just, like, perma-push, and just keep bullying under tower, you know? But it felt like we kept having prio, and they didn’t make any plays at bottom, so I’m not sure what’s the point of picking Mel and Nami. Also, I don’t think Mel-Nami [are] scaling champions. I got one shot, like, at 20 minutes, [but] if I don’t give the angle like that, I’m not sure what Mel-Nami can do. That’s how I feel.
Q: Is it team play, then, to get Blaber to come bot to support Mel-Nami? What does team play mean?
Berserker: Well, I mean for me team play means [knowing] the win condition. There are a lot of drafts in League of Legends, and there are so many [different] strengths. Does that make sense?
I mean, for example, if you play Kalista-Renata, you shouldn’t chase the kill. You should stack the drake every five minutes and then just get the soul, and get the Nashor, and then you should win. That kind of thing, you know what I mean?
But that — all of the team should know that.
Also, I do think that GEN is really good about that. They just know who’s the weakside, and who needs to [be strong] for the win, or when they should take the dragon or when they should play for gold — these kinds of things. So, I mean, it’s just really [something] you need to know if you want to get to a high place [internationally].
Q: Do you have a goal for First Stand, then?
Berserker: For me, when I went to the internationals, I’ve never [defeated] LCK or LPL team. When we go to First Stand, I just want to meet the LCK and LPL even if we, like, lose. […]
Maybe there’s a chance, I guess, [to win]. But we need to improve more — that’s how I felt during the games today.
Q: Any final message for LYON fans?
Berserker: I mean, thank you for cheering us. Also, like I do feel that really happy now — because, even if I don’t feel we did really well, in regular season we only got one win and two losses, but we just didn’t give up. We just keep trying to improve, and I just feel like we proved it today.
I’m proud of my teammates. Thank you for cheering me and the LYON team. Thank you so much, guys.
