FLY Quad: “We just have a lot of stress with each other — not in-person, but [when we] play the game.”

Q: How scary was it to be in this position coming into the weekend?
Quad: I was so scared, because I didn’t think we could miss playoffs before starting this split. But we actually almost [missed it], right? […] So, yeah … if we didn’t make it we are fucked.
Q: Did the loss yesterday to SEN make you scared that you’d lose to DSG? Gryffinn said both games would be free wins, but …
Quad: I didn’t really think about if we lose today but I thought it’s not a free win this week, because are scrims are going not really good, and then our play is kind of … rushing everything. We are not chilling, we are not relaxed.
So I think we can win but we can lose, I thought. I just tried my best.
Q: What do you think is going wrong for the team?
Quad: I’m not really sure.
Not sure, maybe we just have a lot of stress with each other — not in-person, but [when we] play the game. We had a lot of tough things in scrims and that’s why we’re not relaxed. We’re not really listening to each other in-game. That’s why when we play, we kind of overplay a lot.
Q: Have you guys discussed this directly? Have you made progress?
Quad: Yeah, we really talked a lot. We tried to fix it and solve it. We are working on it right now, but it’s not… Of course, it’s not perfect right now, when our play looks [like this].
Q: Are you — as an older player, even though you’re only 23 — the person who’s keeping everyone in check or less stressed in game?
Quad: I’m trying to do that, but I’m also not relaxed. I feel like if I relax, maybe I can really speak like that — “We can relax, we can chill,” or “Calm down.”
But also I’m not calmed down. I think that’s the problem. I think I need to [get rid of my] stress, and then … I feel like, if I’m relaxed, I think we’re gonna be a good team. Like Split 2.
Q: Who’s the best at being relaxed on the team?
Quad: Relaxed on the team? Not sure. Nobody looks relaxed.
Q: On the cast the pro players were complaining about you going in for Azir ult for no reason — they were saying it might just feel good.
Quad: Yeah, I ran it down a lot of teamfights. Like, I know I shouldn’t go in. If I don’t go in, we’re just gonna win because they need to come into us and we’re playing Ivern, Senna, Azir, so they will just lose [the] teamfight.
But [even though] I know that — like, how to teamfight — I don’t know … it just felt like maybe we can insta-win if I go in. [Maybe] that’s why I’m going in. […]
Of course, if I do that and then we win game, it feels good. But I don’t have to do that, I agree.
Q: Can you help the FLY fans believe again? How will you fix it?
Quad: I would say we have two weeks right now, so probably we can take like one or two days off. Probably we’re stressed out, and if we can relax and chill and play comfortable, I think we can play [well], like Split 2.
And also, we still have a chance to make Worlds and win the split, right? I think you just have to try your best in two weeks. That’s how we’ll do it.
Q: Do you look at social media much?
Quad: No, I don’t. I really don’t look at X. Really only sometimes. […] Sometimes I watch [Korean social media], but I don’t really watch a lot.
Q: Sometimes coaches of young teams force all players to get off socials entirely to prevent them from getting the pressure. Do you think that could be where the stress is coming from?
Quad: That’s a good question honestly. I didn’t even think about that. What’s the stress coming from?
Maybe we just started losing and then kept losing. Think that’s stress. Also, for me, I think I’m [main] shotcall in-game, but when we’re not listening to my shotcall and then we lose, I get really tilted. It’s fine one or two times, but if it keeps [happening], I’m really stressed and I lose focus and I lose my [voice]. And then we keep losing. I think that’s why we get stressed all the time.
Q: Do you have any mid lane standout players?
Quad: For laning, I think Callme has the best laning. Split 2 also, I thought Callme had really strong laning — he plays like an LCK mid. He knows how you pressure mid and how you get the advantage. But they’re just kind of a weak team, you know?
But top 4 teams, I think Quid looks best right now. Saint and Loki … not sure if they look the same [as Quid]. They’re kind of the same, but different. They are not, like, insane players, you know?
Q: Were you surprised by Loki over APA?
Quad: Oh, yeah. APA is like … It’s harder to play against him, for me. Because I think APA is doing more team stuff, like macro — he’s doing well [with] midline pro and how you need to pressure in teamfight, especially.
So I think APA is more hard to play against, but Loki has better laning. But maybe he can learn from APA for macro, and maybe [eventually] Loki can be a better player than APA.
Q: Do you have any final message for FLY fans?
Quad: Anyway, we made playoffs, so we have a chance. I will just try my best in two weeks for playoffs — and we have one more game against Shopify. I hope we can be a better team than now.
