FLY Massu: “We can probably lose to anyone and win to anyone.”

"It's fun playing against Inspired. He's always very deliberate with what he does in the game and kind of how he leads the game, so it'll be fun."

Q: Many consider SR the worst team in the league. Were you expecting today to be easy?

Massu: Honestly, no. I think right now there’s almost no team in the LCS that we would go against on the weekend and I’d be like, “Oh, this is just a free win.” I think it’s pretty close depending on the day — especially for us, because we’re still pretty inconsistent. We can probably lose to anyone and win to anyone.

So I’ve never gone into the weekend, not even this one, thinking, “We’re just gonna 2-0 them.”

Q: Your team had the mom buffs today — was that a total surprise?

Massu: Yeah, I think FlyQuest was planning it for a while. And, of course, planning something this big, especially with families that are like ESL, something is bound to slip out — it wasn’t like a complete surprise.

Your parents will call you, and they’re like, “The fuck is this guy talking about?,” and then, you know, we tried to help them.

But FlyQuest wanted to get everyone’s moms out to our game for Mother’s Day. And it was really nice, I will say. We felt some pressure because, I don’t know — having all our families there and just losing in front of them would feel pretty bad. It was nice though.

Q: Did they just show up at the office last night?

Massu: Yeah, we were doing scrims yesterday, and then after scrims they kind of just pulled us into the content room and then it was a nice surprise that our moms were there — and then some people’s dads also came, [and] some people’s siblings.

So it was just families, and then we went out to dinner after doing some content with them. It was just a good time.

Q: A dinner with *everybody*?

Massu: Yeah, all the families. […] It was pretty big. I think it was like 14 people.

Q: The vibe seems pretty great. What are you guys focusing on right now?

Massu: I don’t know if the vibe is *that* good. I kind of don’t like anyone on the team. *laughs*

I’m joking. The vibe is pretty good. I think we all get along pretty well. I think. The age group is, like, very similar. So there’s like Gryffinn, Cryogen, Gakgos who are like, you know, just the little cousins. They’re just very chaotic and they bring a lot of energy to the environment.

Then there’s me, and I’m not going to lie, I feel older every day being with them, but …

Q: Quad lumps you in with the zoomers, and says you make him feel old.

Massu: I mean, Quad is just a bit crazy, so I don’t know. He has some weird takes sometimes, but […] maybe, like, Quad is way older than I thought.

But the vibes have been good. I think in practice, we focus a lot and we’re not scared to tell each other when we feel like something is wrong, [or] just discuss points in-game, discuss weaknesses that we have. I think that’s been good so far.

And I think the other part is, even when we do have disagreements and sometimes egos clash or some people feel like they’re getting just like attacked — which can happen sometimes — we quickly resolve that and we just talk to each other.

I feel like the communication has been good, and the coaching staff has been doing a good job,  and we have been too. So, it’s good.

Q: Can you tell, by playing against a team, that their vibes are bad? Do they just tilt out of games faster?

Massu: Yeah, I think, for sure, there are some factors in the gameplay that you can sometimes feel about other teams. I think bad vibes kind of translate to lack of trust in the game.

I think that’s pretty apparent when you’re against a team that doesn’t trust each other. They don’t trust being on the same page. They don’t trust someone to do something specific, so then they just don’t end up doing what they should do.

Sometimes I’ve felt that maybe like in 2025 against some teams, I can’t remember. But right now I don’t really see it in anyone or feel it.

Q: Some players and coaches have claimed that the FLY bot duo is quite weak and exploitable in lane — reliant on strong early champions. Have you heard that, and have you felt pressured in early games?

Massu: Honestly, no, I’ve not felt that. There are times, obviously, especially when we first started playing together that there’s some stuff I needed to catch Cryo up to, in terms of matchups and specific interactions.

And then like situations that play out, I feel like we’ve gotten pretty good at those and we make decent decisions in lane most of the time. So honestly, I’m pretty surprised to hear that, but it doesn’t really matter to me.

Q: There are different styles of ADC player, generally — Deokdam and Guma are considered utility or weakside players, while Berserker plays to scale for teamfights and Yeon plays to dominate the laning phase and snowball. What’s your “ideal playstyle”?

Massu: I mean, I just like to do whatever gives me the highest chance of winning. So if I’m picking a matchup or the draft, or the coach needs to give me a matchup where we have to get a lead on bot lane, then I would play for that.

If I’m playing a matchup where our job is to impact the map and kind of make sure we’re in a good state, then I am also happy to do that. […] Whatever just brings the highest chance of winning.

I don’t really agree about being a teamfight-oriented AD carry, even the last two years. I think when me and Busio played, honestly like, after the first year, most lanes that I can remember, I played them to a very high mechanical limit as well as a matchup limit.

Q: Thoughts on LYON picking up Castle?

Massu: I’m not sure, honestly, I think I didn’t really see it coming or thought about it much at all. Maybe LYON just wants to… have some kind of switch up. I’m not sure, but I don’t really know anything about their team. And I haven’t thought much about the changes they would make. So I was pretty surprised when I saw the news, but I think they probably just know something about the team atmosphere, the team chemistry that they want to work on.

Q: Any messages for facing C9 and LYON next?

Massu: Yeah. No messages really. I mean, both are pretty solid teams. They both play pretty standard, so I’m excited to play against them.

It’s fun playing against Inspired. He’s always very deliberate with what he does in the game and kind of how he leads the game, so it’ll be fun.

Q: Zven is almost a decade older than Cryogen. Is he simply too old to win lane against the zoomers?

Massu: Nah, I don’t think that has anything to do with it. Sometimes I see that dog in him — I see that he can carry games and he can duel. Other times I feel like maybe he takes too much of a backseat, but I still respect him. I think he’s pretty good, especially when he’s very focused, so I’m excited to play against him.
