FLY Massu: “I think streaming is just a positive that I should be getting into, but I’m not right now. It’s nobody’s fault but my own.”

Q: Do you think C9 fell apart today, or you just played better?
Massu: I think honestly it’s a mix of both. I don’t think they played as well as they usually do, especially in terms of their solo laners getting leads early and picking good fights. But I think we also played pretty well. When we were stronger, we actually played the game, and we pushed our advantage. We used our advantages well — when we were stronger, we found good fights. We had good ideas of how we wanted to fight and how we wanted to control the game. I think we played pretty well as well.
Q: Do you think this proves that FLY is the best team in the league?
Massu: Yeah, I wouldn’t say we proved anything yet until we can consistently play — and win — like this. When we play well, we’re by far the best team. It’s just a matter of us having good prep, having good plans, and keeping trust with each other.
Q: Time for rapid fire fun questions from fans. Have you heard of the Nintendo Switch 2? What are your thoughts?
Massu: I have not heard of it, unfortunately.
Q: You don’t know anything about the Nintendo Switch 2?
Massu: No, not really. I haven’t, like, kept up with the — I know, like, they dropped it some time ago, like an announcement video. But I don’t really keep up with it.
Q: Anime you’re watching right now?
Massu: Oh, it’s been a while since I watched an anime. Most recent was probably Blue Box.
Q: Favorite boba tea order? Do you have one?
Massu: Just Thai milk tea, with boba.
Q: Thoughts on VKBandz?
Massu: [sighs] It’s everywhere. He’s just following me everywhere I am. VKBandz, he’s a very interesting person. I’ll just say that.
Q: Alright. I have no idea what that means.
Massu: He’s [from my] high school.
Q: Do you start brushing your teeth on the right side or the left side?
Massu: That’s a good question actually, I’ve never paid attention to that.
Q: Try miming the motion.
Massu: I’m not gonna mime the motion, but uh…
Q: We’re not recording video, don’t worry.
Massu: I think usually I alternate, actually. Like, sometimes I go from here. Sometimes I start from here. Depends on the day.
Q: Favorite ear?
Massu: 2016?
Q: No, not year. Ear. Which of your ears is your favorite?
Massu: I guess my right ear. I feel like I can hear better from it sometimes, maybe.

Q: The general opinion is that Zven deserves first team all-pro, but after beating him, are you 1st team all-pro?
Massu: Well, I think it’s reasonable if I get 1st team all-pro. I think it would make sense. But based on just the performances this year, I think it would make sense if I got it, would make sense if Yeon got it, and I think it would also make sense if Zven got it. So honestly, it will depend just on the people who voted and then fan perspective — just like, the players that have more fans or the players that are more out there.
Q: Out of LYON and and DIG, who do you think will win?
Massu: I think, if they both played to, like, the usual level they’ve showed this year, then I think LYON. I think it would be like, a LYON 2-0.
Q: What do you think about this draft?
Massu: I think, I would prefer to play the LYON side, but I think both drafts are fine, actually.
Q: Why do you think the LYON side is better?
Massu: I just think they have champs that interact very well against the enemy champs. Like, they have good lanes as well. Bot lane is winning. Top matchup I think is pretty even, but the Gwen has ignite, so she can probably get some advantage. And then mid lane, it’s also pretty even. But, I think later on in the game, like, Gwen interacts pretty well into Taliyah and Ezreal, and she can make a lot of space. I think on-hit Varus is also pretty strong this game. So I think they just overall have a pretty decent comp.

Q: Do you agree with the idea that FLY should stream more given the team’s popularity?
Massu: I mean, for sure, yeah. Like, it’s not something I look over. I think about it pretty constantly just in terms of like, having more content for the fans, or streaming — just to show people more of how I am. I think overall, it’s just a positive, but usually we finish scrims at around 6 PM, and then I play some solo queue, and then I go back home.
And I feel like in my head right now, at least, I feel like I wouldn’t be so entertaining as a streamer after I’ve played scrims because I’m already pretty drained. I’m kind of just playing solo queue and clicking my buttons and trying to play well. So at the same time, entertaining an audience, I feel like I wouldn’t be the best at that.
Q: Some people will tune in for a no mic, no cam stream.
Massu: I mean, honestly, like, yeah, I don’t know what to say to that. I think streaming is just a positive that I should be getting into, but I am not right now. It’s nobody’s fault but my own.
Q: Why not just have every pro player stream no mic, no cam? It’s so low effort.
Massu: Yeah. I mean, for sure, I think so. I think the only disadvantages would be maybe the quality of your practice will be a little bit [worse] because you’re juggling a few things. Or maybe somebody can watch your stream and see your tendencies [like] an analyst or something. But they already have so much VOD on that. So, like… I mean, I think it would be a positive.

Q: They haven’t cut me off yet, so I’ll ask a couple more fun questions. Do you sleep with socks on?
Massu: No. Absolutely not. That’s disgusting.
Q: Do you take your shoes off before you enter the house?
Massu: You mean, like, I take it off at the door? Yeah.
Q: Do you live with any of the league players on the team?
Massu: I live with Busio and Arrow.
Q: Do you have any roommate horror stories or highlight stories?
Massu: Honestly, they’re both, like, pretty good roommates. So, I don’t have horror stories, but there was one time … So our apartment is right under Inspired and Quad’s apartment — just one floor above us is them. And one day, we came home, and our apartment was completely soaked. Like, everything — it was just a full-on a flood in our apartment.
So then we’re like, “What the fuck happened here? Did something break? Did some water pipe, like, explode?” And then we found out that — I forgot if it was Quad or Inspired — [one of them] forgot the water on, in the bath or sink. The water just kept going, and then it started going through our roof and dripping in our apartment. So that was a complete horror to move from.
[E/N: Quad talked about this story on stream in spring, which you can find in this video timestamped, however there are no English subtitles. He said the sink overflowed and turned the dorm into a waterpark that smelled like trash.]
Q: Any of the PCs get destroyed?
Massu: No, thankfully not. It was mostly in our living room. That area was soaked.
