FLY Gakgos: “[Beating SEN] was way too easy. I mean, my team was just so good, I guess.”

"We beat them three times in a row — we didn't expect it to be this easy. So it's normal that everyone is so happy."

Q: Were you expecting the 3-0 today? Came in feeling confident?

Gakgos: I thought it was 3-0, yeah. Before the game ended, I said 3-0. But it was way too easy. I mean, my team was just so good, I guess, especially the bot lane.

Q: People were saying Impact was kicking into gear in scrims — did you see that? Were you concerned that he’d go super saiyan?

Gakgos: I didn’t see that, but we’ve been scrimming them for too long, almost one month because we played them too many times in EWC qualifiers. He was not doing that well, I would say. He was still good, but today’s series, he was gapping me so hard. He just played better than me.

Q: You think Impact played better than you today?

Gakgos: I think so, yeah. The first game I played Rumble into Ornn. He proxied the fourth wave, so he was just going even in that matchup, which I should be able to take some leads, but I couldn’t because he played it well. He didn’t give me an angle to get a lead.

In the second game, I blinded Jayce and he was picking Sion. I think it’s like my favorite champs, like the first all of three games. Ornn, Sion, and [Renekton].

He’s really good at those matchups. He was just gapping me. Like even in the second game, he was just ahead on CS and I didn’t get anything as Jayce.

Q: That said, Massu was smurfing, and it seemed like everyone was super happy and energetic — especially Gryffinn.

Gakgos: We beat them three times in a row — we didn’t expect it to be this easy. So it’s normal that everyone is so happy.

Q: Was it reassuring, even when you were getting gapped in lane, to press tab and see Massu absolutely clipfarming bot lane?

Gakgos: Yeah. I mean, the second game was kind of like that. I will just be okay with dying on side sometimes. But I died one time for no reason when they overloaded bot, that’s why I shouldn’t die there.

But other than that, I just need to be okay with dying because they can’t play bot lane. So yeah, I just did it. I just let my bot lane carry.

Q: Who do you think you’ll face? TL or SR?

Gakgos: I think TL. […] TL is not really consistent. Individual players are so high level, but as a team, maybe if the early game goes even, I think there is a chance that SR can win. But the early game is probably gonna be like TL having a good lead, I think.

Q: Thoughts on the TL matchup?

Gakgos: I think we’re gonna do good. I’m confident.

Q: Morgan plays a lot of similar champions to Impact — is that concerning, based on today?

Gakgos: I think Morgan is a little bit better on that, but I think Impact is better at mid game and using his jungler. He will pressure you with his jungler, so I felt it in game today. I was just pushing wave on bot, but I didn’t see any jungler, so it’s hard for me to walk up in the second game. He’s really good at doing that and Morgan is just 1v1ing more.

Q: Is it mainly Gryffinn who practices the funny champions for stage?

Gakgos: I think Gryffinn mostly is the one who [scrims] some really funny champions that even [sometimes] don’t go well — they sometimes go pretty bad.

Q: I’m still waiting to see Kai’Sa jungle, by the way.

Gakgos:  No one is ready for that. That champ is so OP. We are gonna pick it on our next official [match] probably. It’s not gonna be bot lane for sure. I think jungle [picks those more] — we don’t pick the funny champs in top.

Q: You picked Akali and Quinn. Were those not really scrimmed?

Gakgos: Akali was not really scrimmed, but I did 1v1 with Massu, that’s why I lost that matchup. Massu gave me fake info.

Q: I heard you said last time that he’s so good.

Gakgos: Yeah, I’m joking. He plays really well, but we just played first like five levels or something. I didn’t practice mid game that much.

I was not playing Akali that much in solo queue, so my Akali mechanics were not that good. […] Quinn we played a decent amount [in scrims], yeah. I think that’s my champ. It’s really easy if you know how to get vision and don’t die to enemy jungler.

Q: TF, Illaoi, Varus, and Naafiri have all been picked top lane around the world. When you see picks like that, are you likely to bring them to Thinkcard or try them out in scrims, or do you generally focus on the main meta stuff?

Gakgos: Yeah. If there is a champ that I think is OP, I’m usually thinking about it. But usually there is no angle to that. It’s usually the same champions every game.

But in the fifth games, that should be in my pocket. So it’s usually a little bit cooking, but not that much.

Q: You’re scrimming five-game Fearless right? I’m excited to see how crazy the drafts get on-stage. Especially from Gryffinn.

Gakgos: He has everything in his pocket. You can’t expect what he’s gonna pick.

Q: Have you done anything fun together as a team, out of game?

Gakgos: We used to go to the gym together. It’s just…

Q: All five?

Gakgos: No, except Quad. He’s AFK. He doesn’t like going outside. He just likes home.

We used to go to the gym, but we stopped recently. But I’m hoping after we lock in MSI, we will start going again.

Q: Right now it’s just a “Lock in for playoffs” angle?

Gakgos: Kinda, but it’s not a reason to skip gym. So we’re kinda lying to ourselves.

Q: Who’s the strongest to weakest tier list at the gym?

Gakgos: In the gym? I think the strongest… Should I include coaches?

Apollo has really big muscles. Apollo, then I think Gryffinn is stronger, and then Thinkcard, and then me and Massu are almost the same. But Massu, he went for like three months. He has good muscles.

Q: Massu’s pretty buff, but you’re a lot taller — I thought you’d be stronger.

Gakgos: I was, but I stopped going to the gym for one month and he kept going.

Q: A lot of fans love FLY’s energy and vibes. Do you have a message for them? Why do you think the team’s so popular?

Gakgos: I mean, we are the youngest team in Tier 1, so everyone is excited to play. Everyone is too hyped. So it’s fun when we win, especially with our social media. He’s making it fun. We have a good synergy.

Q: You’re making MSI, right?

Gakgos: Yeah, 100%. 100%.
