DSG Castle: “We’re playing better on stage than like scrims. Our mechanical level is pretty high.”

Q: Insane series, that must’ve been so exciting in-game, right?
Castle: Yeah, for sure.
And, [for] KryRa, debut as a rookie player into Inspired, that must be hard. But, he did well for sure.
Q: How good are you guys right now?
Castle: I think we are still pretty bad, I guess — but I think all five players are, kind of, stage players. We’re playing better on stage than like scrims. Our mechanical level is pretty high. […]
Like every team is like struggling for their team [synergy] or like macro things. But our teamfight is pretty good.
We didn’t even [work on] our teamfight feedback yet. We’re still looking for, like, basic things. We didn’t really talk about teamfighting yet, but we’re pretty good at teamfights already, so I feel really good.
Q: How are you liking the new team?
Castle: I think we, as you know, we have a pretty young roster — our mechanical skill is pretty high, I feel like.
[Because] we have two rookies, it’s a whole brand new team. But I think at the end of the year, we will be really stronger than this.
Q: This is your first really good result in LCS, ever, right?
Castle: Yeah. I think I’ve never had, like, more than 50% winrate in the regular season in LCS so far.
Q: Do you know how playoffs will work?
Castle: I’m not sure. I don’t know everything, but I heard, like, the 3-0 team’s going to choose us.
Q: Who do you think will win, out of C9 and FLY?
Castle: I think C9 feels a little bit stronger. I think C9 is going to pick us.
Q: So you think they’ll pick you?
Castle: I think they’re gonna pick us though. I think whoever wins, they’re gonna pick us. *laughs*
Q: Have you scrimmed any of the top teams?
Castle: Yeah, I think we had some scrims into C9. I think we’ve almost had scrims into every team. But we were kind of struggling so far. […]
I think we are just building our structures in scrims — we also try limit testing a lot.
Q: How do you feel about Ido’s drafts?
Castle: I would say … I think so far he’s drafted pretty well, but I feel like it’s more about our opponents [having] bad draft at that moment.
Q: Did you feel like LYON’s problem today was draft?
Castle: I wouldn’t say it’s only a draft problem, I’m not sure. I was kinda just focused on ourselves first, so I’m not sure.
Q: Do you have an idea of what went wrong for them?
Castle: Not sure. But also like the new patch just released, so like for sure every team [meta read] is kind of different. […] I think LYON is still a pretty good team.
Q: It didn’t feel like they were tilted, then?
Castle: Kind of, but I don’t hear [their comms]. So not sure, but I can see there are some tilting [habits] in-game, a little bit.
Q: Did you ever play with Callme in LCKCL?
Castle: Oh, I never played with Callme on stage, but he was in KT Academy when I was in KT Challengers.
Q: So did you recommend Callme, or was it a coincidence?
Castle: I think they [picked him] first and I said, “Yeah, I knew him. He’s pretty good.”
Q: Have you had any fun stories going out with the team, like cooking together again?
Castle: Yeah, we’re still cooking, but KryRa just came here, so we didn’t really do team stuff yet. I think we can do it this week.
Q: Who’s cooking? Are you the main cook, or is everyone cooking on their own?
Castle: I think we all just cook our own foods.
Q: So have you found anything fun to do in LA, while being here?
Castle: I like to stay at home, so it’s not specifically in LA. I’m just, like, sometimes reading a book, or like watching YouTube.
Q: What books do you read?
Castle: I don’t know how it’s called in English, though. Recently, I’ve been reading “Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table,” it’s from a Japanese writer, I guess.
Q: Have you watched any anime, or read any manga recently that you like?
Castle: Recently I watched the Jujutsu Kaisen, [and] I read it. It’s pretty good.
Q: If you were to recommend an anime, which would you choose?
Castle: I think Attack on Titan is really good. […] I don’t know any of it that well.
Q: What about on YouTube?
Castle: I’m a League player though, I don’t really watch some other things. […] Sometimes it’s pro play, and sometimes it’s just streamers in Korean.
Q: Do you have a favorite Korean streamer?
Castle: So far I watch … You might not know, his name is Paka — he’s a top laner.
Q: Any final message to DSG fans?
Castle: Yeah. Thank you for supporting us. I think we are having better results than we expected. I think we will keep going for improving ourselves. Thank you for watching us — and [please] keep watching us.
Q: Are you going to win against C9 or FlyQuest?
Castle: Yeah, for sure. We’re all for it.
Q: 3-0?
Castle: We’ll try.
