DIG Photon: “Honestly, I don’t feel like I deserve the result. I think I really have confidence in myself.”

Q: What are you thinking about right now?
Photon: Obviously, it’s a sad result with our split ending like that. I’m not sure what to say. It’s just sudden.
Q: Although it’s been such a short amount of time, a lot of people praised your performance with Dignitas during this last month. How did you feel about your own individual performance?
Photon: We [were] just eliminated but, honestly, I don’t feel like I deserve the result. I think I really have confidence in myself.
Q: Could you talk more about that?
Photon: For me, it’s not normal. I don’t think it’s normal, because I did more than [the] enemy top, I believe. So, I’m not sure what happened. I’m not blaming [others] or pointing, just…
Q: Was it hard to synchronize with the team after joining so recently? Do you think having such little time together was the problem?
Photon: I don’t think that was the problem, honestly.
When I first came here, I saw that the team mood was really, like, depressed. They were giving harm to each other.
Q: What do you mean?
Photon: They were harm — like, they were so toxic, I think. I tried to be positive, right? Because I know that’s not good, and I don’t think it’s gonna help us. But, eventually, we didn’t fix it. So, yeah.
I think that’s why it happened like that. It wasn’t like I came here, and we couldn’t scrim [enough] and we couldn’t sync together. I don’t think it was the problem. Individually and as people, I don’t think these five players and coaches were a good fit together.
Q: How did you try to focus on your own skills with everything going on around you?
Photon: I mean, I’m the person who [is] very motivated to go to Worlds.
I really didn’t like how they speak or how they accept some feedback. When I see some points, I just tell them, and then I just focus myself, because that’s all I can do.
Q: Anything you’re looking forward to now that your competitive season is over?
Photon: Well, I’m not sure. I didn’t talk with my team, so I’m not sure what’s gonna happen now. But I’m still hungry to play more competitively, so I think I’m just gonna play solo queue. I don’t think I will go to Korea and stuff. I don’t know. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen, but I heard that there will be some in-houses in LTA. I’m not sure when it’s gonna come, so I probably will try that.
Q: You’ve played on a lot of teams, both in Korea and Europe, that had a lot of different players. Any international teams you watch or still root for?
Photon: Obviously, playing against old teammates is fun. And then in LPL, there’s AL — Anyone’s Legend — the support Kael, he’s my close friend. I wanted to play against him in Worlds this year.
Q: He did well at MSI.
Photon: He has some good mechanics.
Q: You said he’s your best friend?
Photon: Yeah. I mean, I guess. I’m not sure [what he thinks about it], but me and him used to play other games together and talk.
My ex-teammates are playing well in other teams. When they’re playing well and succeeding, and I don’t perform and cannot make Worlds anymore, that feels bad. It’s gives me some feelings at the same time.
Q: Do you have any final message for your fans or fans of the current DIG roster?
Photon: Yeah, thank you for cheering for me and us this year. You guys are supporting me even though I [play] in LEC, T1, and Turkey. Every team. I’m still hungry to go to Worlds, and I’m very motivated. That’s my last goal in my career, I think. I hope you guys still support me and cheer for me until I make it. Thank you for cheering for me.
