DIG Jensen: “I knew it was coming.”Interviews

I messaged FLY about [if I was kicked] and I was told to wait a few days. Then it was like “[The decision] wasn’t made back then, don’t worry. We’re not hiding it behind your back” you know? But obviously that’s bullshit, I knew it was coming.”

Kind of a last-minute move to DIG, what was that like?

Everything had to move kind of fast, because if you go to MSI you don’t really have a break. Summer split starts a month (or less) after you’re back from MSI, it’s really hard to find a team [that late].

If you get replaced between Spring and Summer, it’s really hard to find a team. So I guess I’m grateful that I was able to find a spot [for Summer].

Did you know what was going to happen?

[Offseason] between Spring and Summer is already hard, but didn’t help that I felt like FLY already made the decision pretty early on, but they didn’t really tell me. I had to find out from other people, which was pretty weird.

I don’t know if it was decided [before MSI], but after I was told by people like “hey, FLY is going to do this” and I was like “oh wtf, I wasn’t even told anything”. I messaged FLY myself to [ask], and I was told to wait a few days, then I was told I was replaced.

Like “[the decision] wasn’t made back then, don’t worry. We’re not hiding it behind your back,” you know? But obviously that’s bullshit, I knew it was coming. Kind of shitty of them, but I’m just grateful I was able to find a spot in the end on such short notice.

What made you want to return to DIG?

First, I think it’s always funny to return to players you’ve played with in the past. I know what to expect from Licorice and Zven, it’s just kind of funny reuniting with people [after] years since playing together.

I think the team has a lot of potential, I have an idea how every person is on the team. It’s just people I’m going to be able to get along with very well, and that’s *laughs* something I’m looking forward to. I’m just really excited.

Even though we didn’t get the results during my last split on DIG, I had a good time with the org. I enjoyed the org and the people that worked there, and honestly the roster is just better this time, so.

You’ve been scrimming for a bit, but you didn’t get a bootcamp. How has that been?

I think at first, it was a bit of a learning experience, we had to figure out how we all wanted to play with each other, and I thought “oh no, are we fucked?”, but now it’s much better.

We’re doing really well even against the best teams, and we haven’t even [practiced together] for that long. Honestly, looking forward to the split, I can tell we have a lot of potential — I know that’s a meme thing but seriously.

Thoughts on Bo3’s and fearless?

I’m happy that we get Bo3’s, I’m probably one of the few players who was actually playing back in 2016 when we last had [Bo3’s]. I loved Bo3’s back then, I think it helps a lot with team development.

I’m a little bit sad that we only get to play each team once, I would have liked to have a few more games. As for fearless, it’s definitely an interesting idea. Sometimes the meta gets really stale, in NA at least, and it’ll be [especially good] in Bo5.

A lot of people say you have a small champ pool, but you still support fearless?

I think it’s kind of cap that I have a small champ pool, it’s just that playing mages, for example, is a lot easier for your team. It’s much easier to just be selfless, and not require resources. If you watch MSI for example, all the top mid laners are playing Taliyah, Ori, Azir, Hwei. Usually the mages just become the strongest champs, and it’s just easier to play with. Even in the past, I’ve won finals with [champions] like Akali.

I just think it’s easier to play with mages, and it just makes the whole game easier to play. I don’t really care about like “Pick me Akali, I’m gonna make a montage”, it just makes the game harder for your team.

You mentioned you want double round robin, would you be fine with the “storage closet” setup for that to happen?

100%, because as it stands we’re playing 1 Bo3 a week and it just doesn’t feel right, so I’d definitely do it. I don’t prefer [the closet], but it’s worth.

Who’s shotcalling on this team?

We definitely don’t have a dedicated shotcaller right now, I’m trying to keep a lot of track of tempo myself and calling midgame. As for lane assignments and stuff, people just call out what they think and we decide together.

FLY kicked you, do you have a message for that Week 3 grudge match?

Right now, it’s hard to shit-talk them, because they should be a better team than us; we’re a newly formed team. I’m not confident in calling them dogshit, but I’m definitely praying on their downfall.
