Q: What did you enjoy about this tournament?
Driver: I am a bit sad about the loss, but positive things to say, for my first time playing an international tournament I didn’t feel afraid to be playing on the big stage in front of a big audience, I felt really excited about it. I’d rate myself maybe an 80/100 for my performance in this tournament, even though we lost that last game, which is a bit sad, I’m still happy about our overall results.
Q: What was the level of the teams at this tournament compared to LCP teams?
Driver: Being able to play on the international stage means that they are the best in their regions. I think the teams here are all the best. In LCP, compared to this, there are a couple of strong teams and there are teams that are not the best. That’d be the biggest difference between this and our region.
Q: What about compared to TL? The merger seems to have made LCP stronger than LTA.
Driver: I think the strength after merging the regions is kind of mystical, to be honest with you. For LCP specifically, the Vietnamese region are wild dogs, they’re very aggressive. That helps us, it makes our region stronger because we have to [adapt] to them. But considering that other regions merged and didn’t perform as well, it could be that the two regions were very different in strength before the merge, and after the merge there are very strong teams and very weak teams. If one team just stomps the other it will not help the region get stronger.
Q: Why do you do the celebration dances?
Driver: A long time ago, when I started playing competitive, I was very afraid of losing. I think making myself do the celebration dance actually gave me motivation when playing, another reason to win — so I could perform them for the audience. It helps me with my mentality.
Q: How do you come up with them?
Driver: A lot of times it’s the dances from the champions I play, and sometimes it’s the memes that are going around in the community. It really just depends what’s the hot topic, then I use those ideas in my dances.
Q: Did you have any fun interactions with players from other teams?
Driver: When we played against HLE, I waved to Zeus, and he nodded and we had a little interaction on stage. That’s the only thing coming to mind right now, I can’t think of anything else specific.
Q: Do you have a favorite anime or western TV show/movie?
Driver: I don’t really know much about American culture, maybe some of the books I’ve read are by American authors, but I do watch a lot of Japanese anime. Like Attack On Titan is really popular and really motivating. I like to watch that show.
