100T Goldenglue: “I can’t say who my favorite child is. I love them all equally.”

Q: Was the Sniper Riven picked because the Bo1’s matter less?
Goldenglue: I mean, I have heard other teams say that, but we’re definitely treating it like it matters. We’re prepping and treating it like as any other match.
I never really try to think too much about the format. If we’re playing Bo1s, we’ll try our best, and prep our best, for a Bo1. And, yeah, obviously, it doesn’t show skill as well/which team is better [as] a Bo3 or Bo5, but that’s how regular season is kinda supposed to be anyway.
Q: How are you feeling about the team’s level coming into Split 2?
Goldenglue: Yeah, I would say that this past week has been a really good week of practice for us. I think when we first came in, we were honestly more rusty than I thought we would be. But I feel in the past couple days, we’ve really ramped up our gameplay.
There was a comms issue at [the arena], so I couldn’t hear the guys, and I couldn’t really tell how nervous they were in the game. But I still think it looked we had a little bit of, Game 1, first-game-of-season nerves.
But, overall, we ended up coming out. I think River made a lot of plays that game, and so did Sniper, who kinda got us our lead. I’m pretty happy. I mean, I think Cloud nine was gonna be one of the hardest opponents. And, obviously, we have TL tomorrow too. It should be another tough opponent, but we had a hard week one, and it’s good to know that we’re starting off with at least 1 win.
Q: Which of the bottom teams would you bet on to make Top 4?
Goldenglue: That’s tough. […] I would wanna watch the match that’s happening right now.
[E/N: This was LYON vs DSG]
From scrims, I thought DIG and SR improved a lot when we scrimmed them earlier, but their game just recently was a pretty low quality game. So just based on that, I’m gonna choose DSG as my … Dark Knight. What is it [called]?
Q: Dark horse?
Goldenglue: Knight’s a horse if we’re playing chess. 4D.
So I’m gonna give [DSG] my vote for now, but that’s without seeing the stage game.
Q: If you think of the players as your kids, who’s your favorite child?
Goldenglue: I can’t say that. I can’t say who my favorite child is. I love them all equally.
Q: You said you can’t say, not that you can’t pick one… Interesting.
Goldenglue: Exactly.
Q: Can you say one thing you love about each of your children?
Goldenglue: Yeah, I can. I love River’s humor. I love Sniper’s energy. I love … I guess [for] Quid, also his energy. He’s just a playful guy. I love how playful he is.
Let’s see. Vic/FBI can be pretty funny. And then Bill is very disciplined and and works really hard, so I like that.
Q: I get the impression that Eyla’s vibe is very different from the rest of the team, how does that work out?
Goldenglue: I do feel a lot of our team is pretty, lighthearted and lots of satire. And Bill is definitely the complete opposite, but he does sometimes tune into it. Whenever Bill tunes into that energy, it’s really funny because it does feel it’s kind of against his inherent nature — because he is such a try-hard, disciplined person. Which is nice to have, when people are kinda [goofing off].
So we do we have a bit of that balance on our team and, yeah, it’s honestly just pretty funny whenever Bill gets a little goofy too.
Q: So is he kind of the leash on Sniper?
Goldenglue: *laughs* Yeah, he’s always on top of Sniper.
Q: Do you know about Quid fraternizing with the enemy (Tomo) on sushi dates?
Goldenglue: I didn’t know they were still doing that. I think when they were teammates, they would to go to get some hand rolls [from] KazuNori or something. They still go
I mean, that’s kinda sweet. I feel, keeping up with teammates and past teammates, people don’t do that too often. A lot of times you change teams, and you just completely disconnect from your previous [teammates]. Not always, but a lot of times, people just kinda stop talking.
I think it’s honestly pretty sweet if they keep doing that. I like that. I’m a fan.
Q: What do you think of the FLY Gakgos strategy to pick up a 6th man to complement champ pools?
Goldenglue: That’s pretty interesting, and I do think it’s a very appealing thing.
I think it’s a lot harder to execute than people think. I was a part of C9 when we had our successful seven-man roster, and I think it’s really difficult to execute, and you need the right personalities. You need people who can use that heat to improve themselves, and not necessarily burn out or become a bit more isolated/self conscious.
I mean, I think if a lot of teams try it … I would say it’s definitely not something that I’m gonna be looking into instantly because still, Sniper is young and we wanna develop him. So, if we wanted to develop him and to be able to play more play styles, then that would definitely strongly hinder his ability to continue to improve and learn new play styles.
But I think I could see a world where that could work, and it could be good for a team. […] I think it’ll make sense with a lot of older players who have a very set-in-stone style.
